Kochi, April 10 - The Malayalam cinema is having a box office storm in the form of Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros, which is breaking records at the home turf. The coming-of-age comedy drama has taken the trade by storm by entering the 100 crores club within the first week.

Headlined by Hashir, Vaazha 2 outgrossed its predecessor's lifetime worldwide total of 38 crores gross in the first three days, and went past the 100 crores mark globally in seven days. However, instead of showing a drop, the film witnessed growth during the weekdays, which is quite unreal for a non-star film.

Biggest Second Thursday In Malayalam Language

After the second biggest first Wednesday, the mega blockbuster sequel showed a remarkable growth to score the biggest second Thursday in the original Malayalam language. It jumped by around 85% from the first Thursday, and around 12% from Wednesday to score gross over 9 crores.

While a well-received film tends to see a strong hold, such a jump mid-week without any holiday advantage is very rare, and this suggests that Vaazha is on something very special box office run. In its extended 8-week day, the film has grossed around 64 crores domestically and 116 crores worldwide.

Heading Towards 100 Crore Gross In Kerala

The film is bringing real carnage in the home state, Kerala, where it is challenging all-time biggest blockbusters. On the second Thursday, it grossed a stunning 8.50 crores, pushing the total extended first week gross to 57+ crores in the state. It is already among the biggest grossers in Kerala.

The movie is now certain to enter the 100 crore gross club in Kerala, and it will be very close to this milestone at the end of the second weekend. So far, only two films have managed to hit the mark - Lokah Chapter 1 and Thudarum, and Vaazha is set to become the third film to achieve this rare feat.
