Bengaluru, April 6 - Director SS Rajamouli's epic action drama Baahubali 2: The Conclusion has been one of the greatest blockbusters in Indian cinema, which broke the regional barrier. Despite being nearly a decade old, the Prabhas-starrer still holds a record in many territories, and one of them is Karnataka.

In the Southern Indian state, Baahubali 2 is the highest-grossing non-Kannada film with 129 crores gross. Over the last decade, Indian cinema has produced many big blockbusters, but none of them could challenge BB2 when it comes to non-Kannada films, until a Bollywood mega blockbuster came to challenge it.

Closing The Gap With Baahubali 2

A record that stood for a long time is now on the verge of getting broken by Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge, a film which has earned the right to be called the biggest Indian blockbusters since Rajamouli's directorial. The Ranveer Singh starrer has taken the box office by storm, and Karnataka is one of its strongest territories outside the Hindi belt.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2 has already grossed 120+ crores in Karnataka, and is now behind less than 10 crores to become the biggest non-Kannada blockbuster in the state. It is only the second non-local movie to break into the 100 crore club there, and is now set to become the number 1 in the coming days.

Bigger Picture

Beyond Karnataka, Dhurandhar 2 has already grossed 1000 crore in India, entering an elite club alongside Baahubali 2, Pushpa 2, and KGF 2. However, unlike these pan-India juggernauts, its Karnataka success stands out even more due to its primarily Hindi-driven performance, making this run even more extraordinary.
