Aamir Khan Locks Shooting Timeline For Ashutosh Gowarikar's Sports Biopic and Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots Sequel

Mumbai, May 28 - Bollywood superstar is all set to return to the cricket field with director Ashutosh Gowarikar's upcoming sports biopic film. The actor is gearing up for one of the most exciting phases of his career as the superstar has reportedly allotted dates to the film, before kickstarting Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots sequel.

According to a report by Variety India, Aamir Khan will begin shooting for Gowariker's ambitious period sports drama in October 2026. The film is said to be based on the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series, and it revolves around legendary cricketer Lala Amarnath and his friendship with Pakistan captain Abdul Hafeez Kardar during the partition era.

The project is reportedly being mounted on a massive scale and is expected to feature an emotional backdrop combining sports, history, and human relationships. Interestingly, Rajkumar Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi are also believed to be creatively involved with the screenplay.

The development has also impacted the timeline of the much-awaited sequel to 3 Idiots. As per reports, Rajkumar Hirani's next directorial starring Aamir Khan will now go on floors in mid-2027 instead of earlier schedules, purely because of the script's readiness.

The sequel has already generated huge excitement among fans, especially after Aamir Khan previously confirmed that discussions around the project were indeed happening. Reports suggest that the film may feature a significant time jump and reunite the original trio of Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi. Meanwhile, the film is also expected to feature Vicky Kaushal in a prominent role.

Meanwhile, Aamir's reunion with Ashutosh Gowariker has become a major talking point in the industry. Their last collaboration, Lagaan, remains one of Indian cinema's most celebrated films and even received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. With two major projects lined up back-to-back, Aamir Khan appears set for a grand comeback phase over the next few years.
