Mumbai, May 9 - Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and director Ashutosh Gowariker are reportedly set to reunite nearly 25 years after Lagaan for a new period sports drama based on the life of legendary Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, the ambitious film is currently in the advanced stages of development, with Ashutosh Gowariker working closely on the screenplay and narrative. The project is expected to explore the emotional and inspirational journey of Lala Amarnath against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan partition era.

Aamir Khan Excited About The Script

The film will reportedly showcase several important chapters from Indian cricket history while also focusing on the personal struggles and achievements of Lala Amarnath, who was the first Indian batter to score a Test century for India.

Interestingly, celebrated filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi are also said to have contributed creatively to the script development process. The makers are planning to mount the film on a grand scale, with extensive pre-production expected soon.

Shoot Expected To Begin From September 2026

As per the report, the shooting of the untitled film is likely to begin around September 2026. The project is expected to be one of Aamir Khan's biggest ventures in the coming years and will mark his return to the cricket genre after the Oscar-nominated Lagaan.

After completing this sports drama, the actor is reportedly expected to move on to Rahul Mody's startup-based film alongside Shraddha Kapoor, followed by the sequel to 3 Idiots with Rajkumar Hirani.
