Tumbbad 2 Release Date Confirmed: Sohum Shah Returns for a Grand Horror Sequel

Mumbai, April 29 - Fans of the cult classic Indian folk horror film can finally mark their calendars. Following years of speculation and a record-breaking theatrical re-release of the original film, makers have officially announced that Tumbbad 2, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and others, will hit cinemas on December 3, 2027.

While the first film was a masterclass in claustrophobic tension and greed, Tumbbad 2 promises a massive leap in scale. The sequel's central theme is said to be "Pralay" - the Hindu concept of cosmic dissolution or the apocalypse. This suggests that while the first film dealt with the personal greed of one family, the sequel may explore the catastrophic consequences of that greed on a much larger, perhaps even global, scale.

Directed by Adesh Prasad, Tumbbad 2 is positioning itself as one of the most expensive horror-fantasy films ever made in India, with a reported 150 crore budget. A significant portion of this budget is being allocated to cutting-edge visual effects and the elaborate practical sets required to bring the "Pralay" vision to life.

Production of the film has already commenced, giving it enough time for filming and post-production to ensure the sequel matches the meticulous craftsmanship of its predecessor. The original Tumbbad took six years to make and was a slow-burn success that eventually gained legendary status on streaming platforms.
