Shahid Kapoor Teams Up With Maidaan Director Amit Sharma For A Body-Swapping Sci-Fi Comedy; Plot Details Revealed

Mumbai, May 7 - Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor is set to explore a completely new space with his next feature film, as the actor has reportedly joined hands with director Amit Sharma for a quirky body-swapping comedy. The project, which is currently in the pre-production stage, is being described as a high-concept entertainer packed with humour, chaos, and emotional drama.

According to Variety India report, the upcoming film revolves around a body-swapping premise, a genre rarely attempted on a big scale in mainstream Hindi cinema. The sci-fi romantic-comedy follows a married couple on the brink of divorce who unexpectedly swap bodies following a failed scientific experiment. This forces them to leave each other's daily routines, leading to comedic elements and a deeper understanding of one another.

Amit Sharma, known for directing acclaimed films like Badhaai Ho and Maidaan, is expected to bring his signature mix of heart and comedy to the project. Shahid Kapoor has often showcased his comic timing in films such as Jab We Met and Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, and this new entertainer is expected to tap into that side once again.

The report also stated that the makers are looking to cast a younger leading actress opposite Shahid. Actress Janhvi Kapoor is reportedly in discussions for the female lead, though an official confirmation is still awaited. If finalised, this would be the first on-screen pairing of Shahid Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor.

The untitled film is expected to begin production later this year and is targeting a mid-2027 theatrical release. Shahid is expected to complete his ongoing commitments, including the much-awaited second season of Farzi. Meanwhile, the actor's next release is Cocktail 2, co-starring Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, and is slated to release on June 21, 2026.
