Mumbai, April 29 - The Malayalam film industry is on the verge of witnessing a major opening as megastars Mammootty and Mohanlal-fronted Patriot gears up for its theatrical release this Friday. The film, which marks the rare on-screen reunion of two of Malayalam cinema's biggest icons, has generated huge buzz in the days leading up to its release.

Advance Booking Signals Blockbuster Opening

The film has recorded impressive booking numbers, especially in Kerala, and in the Gulf region, where fan frenzy is at its peak. Several shows across major centres are already nearing capacity, indicating a bumper opening day. In Kerala, the film has so far grossed around 4+ crores pre-sales, while all India booking has crossed the 4.50+ crore mark for the opening day.

Overseas advance sales are equally solid. In the Gulf region, Patriot has crossed the 5 crore mark, while overseas international pre-sales are around 9 crores. The worldwide booking of Patriot currently stands at 13.50+ crores gross, heading towards the 15 crores mark, with less than a day still left for the release. This makes it one of the biggest pre-sales for a Malayalam title, hinting at a big opening.

Based on current trends and trade estimates, Patriot is expected to open with impressive numbers worldwide. At the domestic box office, the opening of the film is expected to be in the range of 10-12+ crores gross, while overseas markets are heading towards 15+ crores start, depending on how the sales proceed on the last day before release.

With a worldwide opening projected in the range of 25+ crores, this will be the second biggest start for a Malayalam film if these projections hold. Mohanlal's Empuraan is currently the biggest Mollywood opener with an earth-shattering start of around 70 crores gross.
