Karuppu Box Office: Suriya's Action Drama Beats Leo, Jailer To Score Excellent Second Weekend

Chennai, May 25 - Tamil superstar Suriya's action drama Karuppu is putting on a sensational show at the box office, and reaching new highs with each passing day. The film scored an excellent second weekend at the domestic box office, with over 40 crores gross collection, including 17+ crores gross on Sunday.

Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu has minted approximately 172+ crores gross at the domestic box office through the second weekend, and is now racing towards the 200 crores milestone, which will be the first for Suriya. In Tamil Nadu, the fantasy action drama has beaten the heavyweights to gross one of the biggest second weekends ever.

Helped by the super positive word of mouth, the blockbuster film grossed approximately 30.10 crores gross in Tamil Nadu in the second weekend, which is higher than Thalapathy Vijay's Leo (27.40 crores) and superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer (23.40 crores) second weekend collection. Karuppu is behind only Vijay's The Greatest of All-Time and Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan - 1 as the third biggest second weekend grosser in the state.

At the worldwide box office, the Dream Warrior Pictures' production is heading towards 250 crores gross mark after grossing around 240 crores through the second weekend (10 days). In the overseas market, Karuppu has also emerged as Suriya's biggest grosser with an estimated gross collection of around 67 crores.

Karuppu is now heading towards 275+ crores finish, and if the momentum continues, it has a chance to enter the 300 crores club. It is already Suriya's biggest blockbuster, and one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all-time. The movie ended Suriya's long dry period and put him into the league of the biggest Tamil stars.
