Baahubali: The Eternal War Marks A Big Global Break With Prestigious Annecy Festival Selection
Mumbai, April 15 - In a significant boost for Indian animation on the global stage, Baahubali: The Eternal War – Part 1 has been selected for the "Work in Progress" showcase at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026. Widely regarded as the world's most important animation festival, Annecy serves as a global launchpad for some of the most celebrated animated films.
The film's inclusion in the Work in Progress lineup places it among a curated selection of international projects currently in production, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at evolving animated features. The 2026 edition will feature 16 standout projects from across the globe, reflecting diverse storytelling styles and cutting-edge animation techniques.
This milestone marks a major moment not just for the Baahubali franchise, but for Indian mainstream cinema, which is increasingly gaining recognition in the global animation space. The project, backed by Arka Media Works and spearheaded by franchise creator S. S. Rajamouli, has been in development for several years and represents an ambitious expansion of the beloved universe.
Directed by Ishan Shukla, the film is a large-scale international collaboration involving studios from India, the UK, and France. With a reported budget of around 120 crore and a planned 2027 release, the animated epic aims to push the boundaries of Indian storytelling with a global visual language.
