Awarapan 2 Release Date Postponed; Emraan Hashmi Starrer Now Eyeing Independence Day 2026 Weekend

Mumbai, April 3 - The much-awaited sequel to the cult classic Awarapan has been in production since last year. Starring Emraan Hashmi, Awarapan 2 was slated to hit theatres on April 3, 2026, but due to the pending work, the makers were forced to postpone the release, and a new date has reportedly been locked.

According to the latest updates, the intense romantic action drama is now targeting the lucrative Independence Day weekend in August 2026. While an exact date hasn't been officially locked, the mid-August frame seems to be the preferred choice. This shift is expected to give the film a wider audience reach and stronger box office potential, considering the holiday advantage.

Awarapan 2 is a sequel to the 2007 film Awarapan, which gained a cult fan following over the years for its emotional storytelling, music, and Emraan Hashmi's intense performance. The sequel is expected to carry forward the legacy while presenting a fresh narrative with modern cinematic scale.

The buzz around the film has been steadily building, especially among fans who have long awaited the sequel to happen. While there hasn't been any update since its announcement, fans continue to remain excited in anticipation of the sequel, which has Disha Patani as the female lead.

Directed by Mohit Suri, the original film follows a gangster named Shivam Pandit, who is ordered by his boss Bharat Malik to watch over Reema, Malik's secret Pakistani mistress. Even though the film failed at the box office, it gained a cult status and is considered one of Hashmi and Suri's best works. The sequel is being directed by Jawaani Jaaneman director Nitin Kakkar.
